Penny and Ben’s beautiful day at Estancia in La Jolla!
We always love the opportunity to photograph our La Vida Couples at Estancia. The staff there is wonderful, the rooms are big and comfortable, and the location, well, gorgeous! Penny and Ben came out to La Jolla from Colorado for their wedding, and we were so fortunate to be a part of it! Their engagement session was also in La Jolla, a little further toward the water. We became fast friends during that session, and it was a joy to see them again!
Penny’s STUNNING Vera Wang gown was so classic and romantic!
Penny and Ben opted not to do a First Look, as that would be a part of the Bedeken Ceremony, following the Tisch. As such, Betsy and I both were able to photograph the guys hanging out, as well as the ladies getting ready. It was also great that we had a bit of time for Penny and Ben individually! With such a beautiful property, we were very happy about that. 🙂
Isn’t she lovely? (and very smiley/giggly as well!)
Ben and his dudes were having a great time as well!
Betsy and I separated once again for the two different Tisch ceremonies. The gentlemen had a great time toasting Ben and wishing him well in his new life with his true love. Rabbi Ben was AWESOME as he led the family and friends through the Tena’im (the official betrothal) as well as the Ketubah signing (marriage contract). He was so very knowledgeable and had a super sense of humor (which is very important during a wedding day!) Everyone was laughing, eating and singing (with a side bit o’ drinkin’). I love Jewish ceremonies because there is SO MUCH history and meaning behind all of the reception and ceremony events!
Once the contracts had been signed and delivered, the two moms came in for the plate breaking, which signifies the official end of the engagement period. One small hitch: The plate. Would. Not. Break. That thing must have been made of concrete…they even dented the chair with it! A good hearty laugh was given by all, especially from Rabbi Ben. 🙂
The contracts have been signed, the toasts have been made… now to sing and dance on over to the Bedeken just to make sure Ben was marrying the right person!
Ben was escorted into the ladies’ Tisch and brought to the front where Penny was waiting. It is the groom’s duty to make sure that he is indeed marrying the correct woman. Once satisfied, the groom gently places the veil over the bride’s head. Pretty cool tradition, if you ask me! 🙂
There were some pretty sweet moments happening as their parents offered a few last-minute well-wishes.
We had a few minutes before the ceremony began, so we whisked Penny and Ben away to a spot we had found earlier that would be “guest-free”. Such pretty light!
On to the ceremony! Love this huge hug from Mom to her baby boy!
The big moment! Ben is stoked. And it’s pretty evident that Penny took his breath away! 🙂
Rightly so! Look at the loveliness coming down the aisle for him!
I was really happy when I realized that the groom’s ready-room was directly above the Chuppah. Norma with NR3 Productions and I took turns popping up to the room for a few quick overhead shots.
OK. Confession time. I generally don’t take photos of guests carrying around or using iPhones. But this was Ben’s grandfather on Facetime during the entire ceremony, since he was not able to travel. How sweet is that?!
Penny and Ben had been practicing for their first dance, and it showed! Great job, guys! Love how everyone gathered around the dance floor for their dance too 🙂
There are two types of Hora Dances that we have photographed. Those with a really big wide circle of guests moving around slowly to Hava Nagila, and then there is this one… SUPER HIGH ENERGY! 🙂
And what Hora would be complete without a Chair Lift?
This dance floor was packed ALL NIGHT. Great crowd fired up by a great live band. The Soultones rocked it!
This might look weird, but it was absolutely hysterical!
Penny’s father was recounting the day that he had first met Ben (in the hospital). I just wonder how long he was carrying around those items?!?
Penny and Ben, we both think you are very special people, and we were so glad to be there for you on your wedding day! You are definitely surrounded by some pretty amazing people who clearly love you. Thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to get to know you both! 🙂
