TWENTY-FIVE YEARS IN THE MAKING!!! What an amazing way to celebrate a long history and great life together! Emily and Monique rang in their silver anniversary with an intimate La Jolla destination wedding at the Martin Johnson house at Scripps La Jolla, surrounded by their closest friends and family. What a great day it was! Pretty much my favorite thing in the world—when our couples get ready together. It’s so intimate and lovely! Helping each other with all those little last details! <3 <3 <3 And this is the perfect ending to helping each other prepare for the big day… Ready to go into the day together and face the world as a team!!! After departing their cute beach cottage bungalow, we headed over to Scripps La Jolla to capture some pre-ceremony portraits of these two amazing women. Emily and Monique met in college at UC San Diego (my alma mater too!).Anyone who’s gone to school there has to appreciate the constant and unique ways concrete is used in the architecture around campus. Scripps is no exception. A lot of the concrete down there looks like weathered wood which is pretty cool and makes an awesome textured, but minimalist background so that you can appreciate the simple beauty of this moment between our two brides. 🙂 Um, how can you NOT love these two?! We were instantly smitten when we met them for their engagement session at the start of their San Diego visit before the wedding. There’s something really truly awesome about photographing a couple who’s been together for many years. I love it! Beautiful and strong woman—you both looked absolutely amazing!
These two and their adorable eskimo kisses kind of slay me. This is just simply the way they are with one another and it just makes you smile. One last stop to capture the breathtaking ocean view at Scripps that you really just can’t beat anywhere in San Diego! Ceremony time!! Everyone found their way thanks to some helpful signage from some of the kiddos! Loved how Emily and Monique did things their own unique way to reflect what felt right to them. Their wedding party was comprised of their two daughters, Bethany and Maya, and they each approached from opposite sides of the Chuppah. The setup at Martin Johnson House was perfect for this kind of entrance for two brides! Maya kept peeking around the corner for Emily and Bethany. So much excitement!! EEEEEEEE!!! It’s really, really happening! It’s always so great to celebrate a couple with the incomparable Bethel Nathan of Ceremonies by Bethel. She really knows how to share the couple’s stories and relationship in a very special way with the crowd! Their kids were really excited watching on as things unfolding during the ceremony. Loved how excited Emily and Monique’s parents were too. They were presented with white roses as a thank you for their love and support throughout their lives. I think you can just feel their excitement and joy they shared throughout the day. Something that I really love about Emily and Monique is that they have all this history together, yet interact like they just started dating. It’s really obvious how deep their connection is, yet still playful and so loving <3 Smiles all around!! For their wedding ring exchange, they moved their beautiful gold commitment rings from their 10th anniversary from the left hand to the right and then presented each other with new white gold bands for the left hand. They bought the new rings on their early honeymoon in late July on a ferry trip over to Vancouver, BC Canada. A perfect representation of the maturity and strength of their relationship and the many chapters they’ve experienced over the years in their journey together! And of course, their daughters needed to be a part of this all to celebrate the life and family they’ve created over the years. The sand ceremony was a great way to all participate and appreciate the togetherness they share! Undeniably, always always always some of my most favorite moments of the day! Beautiful sunset over the Pacific right as the reception was beginning. Just fabulous! And an incredible dinner by the talented crew at Waters Catering. The food was DELICIOUS!! Time to share their first dance as newlyweds! They just always seem to magically shift gears from laughing together to sharing a tender moment. And then the dance floor exploded!! EVERYONE was cutting a rug! Fun, fun dancing crowd. This was a fun group of kids. They were pretty much owning the dance floor like champs right before we left for the night. 8 going on 30 😉 These gals from Atlanta (where Emily and Monique currently reside) kept us pretty entertained on the dance floor all night!
