What can I say about Jennifer and Serge?
Love these guys.
Two lovers of life that began their relationship while working at the same company as engineers. Although they were not in the same department (Electrical and Software), they still found each other through the company’s big holiday party. After that, it was just meant to be.![]()
Jenn thoughtfully chose a combination of beautiful custom jewelry as well as an antique family heirloom for adornment on their wedding day.
Gorgeous fall florals by Isari Flower Studio. Such rich colors and textures accented by the addition of fall leaves!
Serge and his adorable son, Garen… look at that awesome hair! Serge describes it as “Soccer Hair”. So true! In fact, Serge took Garen to play in a game earlier that day before the festivities began. Hanging out with the guys was a lot of fun for me, as all the guys were speaking in what I thought was pure French, but it sounded just a little different. As most of Serge’s friends and family are from Cameroon, my assumption is that they were speaking in Camfranglais (Serge, please correct me if I am wrong!). What’s Camfranglais, you ask? Don’t feel bad… I had to look it up on Wikipedia:
Camfranglais, Frananglais, or Franglais (portemanteau between French terms camerounais, français and anglais) is a language from Cameroon, consisting of a mixture of French, English, the creole language Cameroonian Pidgin English and several words borrowed from many dialects spoken in Cameroon. The language blend is common among young people in the country, and rivals creole as the country’s most common lingua franca. It is most popular in the high-density urban centres where Anglophones and Francophones meet.
It’s funny… one might not realize that it is quite a challenge for a photographer to grab imagery of a group of people who are not speaking English the entire time. Normally, I can anticipate when the punchline of a joke is delivered (and hence, when everyone will be laughing). So this was a really fun challenge!
By the way, their English was all perfect as well (but their accent is sooooo cool to listen to).
Jenn got prepared for the day in the caretaker’s cottage with her sisters, bestie, and a gaggle of kiddos
They were all there with a celebratory spirit which we love to see!!
Serge was so excited to see Jenn in her dress! Betsy and I love how Jenn and Serge both light up whenever they see each other.![]()
On a side note, Estancia La Jolla is such a beautiful wedding location! Everything is so private, and has so many different alcoves and small nooks that we can find a special spot for our couples to have moments like this where they are the only ones who exist in the world for a little while.![]()
AWWWWWWWWWWW! So sweet. <3
“Dad? Are you getting married yet, or what?!?”
Yep! Time to get married!
Brenda and Ania of Swann Soirées did a great job of leading the large group of kiddos to the aisle and creating a beautiful day for the happy couple.
Jenn was just beaming as she rounded the corner to see her man up at the altar…
…and Serge was there waiting for her with a loving look in his eyes and wouldn’t you say she took his breath away as she rounded the corner?
This is the first moment Serge greeted Jenn at the end of the aisle and it is the perfect example of how Jenn describes Serge’s way of being together and taking care of one another. <3
We strongly believe that a little bit of humor is a good thing during a ceremony! Love & laughter…it’s what makes the world go ’round, right?
“You may now give each other a gigantic hug and kisses.”![]()
Have I mentioned how much we love Estancia? The Grande Ballroom has cool lighting and is on the intimate side of things without being too crowded. And how great is this idea… each numbered table hosted a wine bottle that the guests signed and Jenn and Serge will open it to toast the corresponding year of marriage. Brilliant!
Hilarious and terrific toast! Jenn’s reaction is classic and equally matched by Serge’s secondary reaction. Anyone who’s been married knows that look… “Well, honey… that is pretty true (said in a totally loving but slightly snarky manner).”
Ahhhh…delicious twilight. Always nice when a couple wants to take a small timeout during the reception for a quick reset and a few awesome images.![]()
The dance floor began with their first dance, and it was lovely…
…then they GOT DOWN!!
Serge’s mother was a hoot! She was having SO. MUCH. FUN! We love to see that.![]()
This is not a Conga Line. This is a Cameroonian Line!![]()
To Jenn and Serge…
Thank you for a wonderful time, both during your engagement session in La Jolla, as well as your beautiful wedding! I hope that we can find a way to hang out with each other sometime soon. Perhaps over a Liverpool game at Shakespeare’s?
Look forward to sharing the rest of your images with you soon!![]()
