evan + kristy’s engagement | point loma & the pearl hotel

Photographing photographers.

I can’t think of a more stressful, anxiety-inducing and self-doubting activity…Evan and Kristy have been dear friends of our for several years, and we have grown to love them like family. Be it a wine night, fancy dinner or even just shooting the breeze, Betsy and I found kindred spirits in these two and really wish that they had moved out here (from Baltimore) much sooner!:)

When they asked us to be their engagement session photographers, we jumped at the chance, knowing full well that the emotions listed above would be running through our minds. But the honor bestowed upon us greatly outweighed the bundle of nerves! We also chose our talented friend Evan as our photographer for our vow renewal ceremony last year at Wiens winery in Temecula (our 1oth wedding anniversary), so we now completely understand what was running through his mind when he photographed us:)

Ev and Kristy wanted to do a 30′s/40′s themed shoot around a RAD set of clothes they had put together. They are already one of the cutest couples we know, but when they put on their new outfits, we were floored! Kristy looked absolutely stunning in her new dress, and Evan? HANDSOME. BASTARD.:)

We found a wonderful little stretch of flowers on a pathway down along the shoreline in Point Loma for Evan and Kristy’s picnic. Evan brought his old Agfa along to add to the awesomeness!

These two are so dang sweet with each other!!

SWOON!!!

No trolls under this bridge! Hee hee.:)

And, they love to laugh together! We know they consistently crack us up too:)

Kristy’s turn with the Agfa! I think she was a little afraid of breaking it.

Vintage-y goodness…

Was Evan shooting us at the same time?;)

The cool thing about photographing another photographer…they’ll chase light up a random side street right along with you!

After our wildflower and picnic excursion, we drove back up to their house for a quick wardrobe change and then we were off to their favorite hangout spot: The Pearl Hotel. If you have never been to the Pearl, you are missing out on an AWESOME mid-century gem down in Point Loma. Funky design, great staff, delicious food (don’t even get me started on that pork chop!) and even their famous “dive-in movie night” all create a perfect hangout spot for Evan and Kristy. Since they spend a lot of date nights there, we of course HAD to document this special place for them.

Sultry, sassy or sexy? All of the above.

To Evan and Kristy:

Ever since we met you guys at The Waterfront for fish tacos, we have been in love with all that you represent. You two are so great individually, and together you make a really awesome couple full of great love, style, and fun. We are really looking forward to your wedding! Thank you so much for letting us into your lives not only personally, but also as your photographers. Can’t wait (as always) to hang out with you again!

To Evan and Kristy’s friends and family: Have you signed in to their Pictage Event Page yet? You will be notified as soon as the individual images go live in a few weeks, and you will receive a gift certificate toward your first print purchase!
