Evan Bishop is my hero.
It’s kind of hard to put into words why I think that, but I’ll give it a go.
Evan and Kristy moved out to San Diego from Baltimore, home of Ravens football, intensely delicious crabcakes, and, of course, the ridiculously funny “Hon Fest”! Evan picked up his photography business and moved it completely across the country: uncertainty of a new market, unfamiliar faces… what huge challenges to overcome! We really respect him for that. We love Evan and Kristy for their warmth and generosity, their love for quality food and wine, their easygoing attitude, and their ability to make us laugh until we pee our pants.![]()
You may remember Evan from our 10-year Vow Renewal up in Temecula. We already loved Evan’s work, but we also wanted Evan to be a big part of our day, and we were so thrilled to have him there! We were also honored that Kristy and Evan chose us to shoot their engagement session back in 2011. Most recently, we all agreed to swap pet photo sessions. Ev’s best pal, Boo Radley, is his 14-years-young border collie who he loves to pick up and cuddle on a daily basis. We met up with Evan, his awesome wife, Kristy, and The Boo over at the Grape Street Dog Park for a little fun!
It might surprise you a little bit to know that Boo, a photographer’s dog, absolutely hates cameras. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Betsy and I were scrambling to capture Boo at his best, and sometimes the shots of him completely looking away turned out to be just as awesome. “Yep! That’s Boo, alright.”
Even though Boo isn’t a fan of the camera, he is still very much a fan of his humans.![]()
There’s the cuddle-bug!
And yes…with perseverance and patience, we were able to get a few shots of Boo’s pretty brown eyes.![]()
“WHATCHOOLOOKINAT?!?”
Ah, yes…. a man and his dog. That’s a unique and special bond!
We call this “Crazy Eye”, and Mace gets it all the time, especially at the dog park!
I always get a little bummed when I capture a shot of humans, and their eyes are closed in mid-blink. But for some reason, any time I see a dog with his eyes closed, it just cracks me up.![]()
One of Boo’s little quirks is his “Gangsta Lean”. Due to a medical condition, Boo has had some issues with balance lately. At first, he would take a few steps and fall over to one side. It was so sad to see! But, over time, he has figured out a way to balance himself as he trots along…with a Gangsta Lean.
Boo was content to just be held for awhile after the quickie session. We could have shot longer, but Boo said that he was a little tired and was ready to grab a beer over at Tiger!Tiger! in North Park. Fine, Boo. We’ll go get a beer and some snacks.![]()
Kristy, Evan and Boo: We love you guys like family. No, seriously. Having you in our lives is something that we absolutely cherish! We’ll see you up in Paso!!
Everyone else: After you leave a comment on this post about how awesome the Bishop family is, be sure to check out Evan’s shoot that he did for Betsy, Mace and Me that he entitled “A Day in the Life of Mace Windu”! He totally killed it, and we have flipped through those images A LOT already.![]()
