Allyson and Paul…two lovable souls who have found each other through the magic of the internets! He was in Bakersfield, she was in Los Angeles. Their first date was a bit hard for them to manage due to the distance, but once they finally had their first date at a little Italian restaurant in Los Feliz, Allyson and Paul knew that the “distance thing” was totally worth it.
Allyson and Paul love to travel together, so the gorgeous Santa Fe Train Depot made for a perfect setting!
They thoroughly enjoyed playing around with their map of Europe while chatting about the big day, future travel plans, and generally horsing around with each other.
Paul proposed to Allyson at the top of the Empire State Building, which was totally fitting…”An Affair to Remember” is one of Allyson’s favorite movies of all times. Paul took it a step further, however, as he whipped out his iPad and showed her a video that he and his friends had made prior to the trip. The video started with Paul lip-synching ‘Rhythm of Love’ by the Plain White T’s (a fave of theirs) and proceeded with footage of Paul recounting many of the special moments and locations that they had shared together. The video ended with imagery of Paul going into the jewelry store to pick up an engagement ring, and it was at that time that Paul had dropped to one knee as Allyson viewed the love story unfold. iPads are awesome…just sayin’.
Another truly great story that these two shared with us is the first time that their two mothers were to meet. They were very excited to go to a U2 concert (Paul’s all-time favorite band), with a planned introduction of the two moms earlier that day. The meeting went well, although Paul started to develop a striking abdominal pain. They all said to “man up” and just go to the concert… and sadly, they ended up spending the night not dancing to Bono and The Edge, but rather in the ER. Paul witnessed Allyson’s love, support and devotion that evening first-hand, and really couldn’t be happier (minus the side-splitting pain, of course). Several weeks later, Allyson surprised Paul for his birthday by giving him two tickets to see U2 in Minneapolis, one of the last cities they played on the tour. Now, isn’t that thoughtful and sweet?!

The entire time we were at the Depot, we couldn’t help but notice how the light just illuminated Allyson’s GORGEOUS hair! Quite angelic, yes?
You can just tell how safe and beloved Allyson feels when she’s wrapped in Paul’s arms…
After some fun at the Depot, we cruised around the corner to shoot in front of one of their favorite spots in SD, the US Grant Hotel. We were very thankful for their patience as we asked them to walk this stretch a few times so that we could capture their relationship without tooooo many tourists hanging about.
Allyson and Paul, we had a great time catching up with you and sharing some laughs! You guys did a GREAT job, and we are so proud to be your wedding photographers! Remember that we can squeeze inside your suitcases for your next big trip. Hee hee!
