two families and cultures come together at Colony 29

Wedding couple see each other for the first time on wedding day at Colony 29 in Palm Springs

BASK in the SUN!!

What an amazingly gorgeous day we shared with these two at the private estate Colony 29 for their outdoor wedding in Palm Springs! They were anxiously awaiting their big day as it brought their two families—and two cultures—together as the foundation for their next chapter of life. We had been looking forward to it too!  {for your information, their names have been omitted due to the private nature of their professions}Indian bride gets ready on her wedding day at Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springs, photo by la vida creations

We started the day in the desert with the final touches of getting ready as our bride and her mother shared some quiet time together as she was dressed in a traditional Indian saree outfit. Indian bride getting ready on wedding day with her mother at Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springs, photo by la vida creations

Of course, everyone had Mehndi or Henna tattoos done for the big celebration. So much intricate beauty! Also, I learned that the bangles are stacked as a bunch of 21 as it brings good luck. Love all these wonderful traditions interwoven into the day!alyssa-jon-palm-springs-outdoor-wedding05

Oh, and those perfect desert florals by Exquisite Blooms! Can you believe that giant protea contrasted by apricots and eucalyptus? Just brilliant! And so unique! Gorgeous desert florals by exquisite blooms indian bride, photo by la vida creations

Then Jeff joined the guys for a bit as our groom was supported by help from his brothers and his father. Took a few tries with getting that tie knot just right, but ended up looking sharp!groom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations dad helps groom get ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations

They shared their excitement for the day and paid each other many compliments on their outfits as we hid out in the bushes to give them a little privacy and space… and forget the world around them. Quiet moments between bride and groom on their wedding day Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations Couple hides away for their first look and share some special moments before their ceremony Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations

After their first look naturally came to an end, we went on a bit of a walkabout around the top half of the property. Love these tiny little tender in-between moments that happen when our couples have a chance to breathe and slow down for a few minutes before they go into the rest of the day and festivities.Close up of wedding couple sharing intimate moments as they hold hands during their first look on their wedding day Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations Intimate moment between bride and groom during their first look on their wedding day Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations

And of course, it wouldn’t be a La Vida couple if there wasn’t a little playfulness and laughter along the way.Wedding couple share some laughter together before their outdoor ceremony Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations Wedding couple snuggle up and share intimate moments on their wedding day Colony 29 private estate in Palm Springsgroom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations

A tiny interlude with our bride and some of her BFFs before walking down the aisle. Teehee! bride celebrates with her girlfriends while getting ready, drinking a bottle of champagne by herself!

Time for their inter-faith and inter-cultural wedding ceremony! Love the feel and details of it all. How amazing is that shade canopy that protected the guests from the desert sun? It brought such a cool feel to the space and seemed to transport people to another place as they were greeted with chilled whole coconuts to sip on prior to the ceremony. So wonderful!   details from the After the Engagement designed outdoor Indian Jewish wedding ceremony at Colony 29 Palm Springs, photo by la vida creations

Love how his parents are just BEAMING here! Everyone was so excited to see these two tie the knot.

There are so many wonderful traditions and rich symbolism in Hindu and Jewish wedding ceremonies. It was so great to see both of these religions brought together in one celebration.

Leading one another around the seven rounds of the Holy Fire. This is actually representative of the legal part of Hindu marriage. The seven rounds go as such…

1. Prayers for plenty of nourishment and food.
2. Prayers for a healthy and prosperous life—physical, spiritual and mental health from God.
3. Prayers for wealth and strength in walking together to obtain wealth as they  share the happiness and pain of life together.
4. Prayers for ever-increasing love and respect for each other and their respective families.
5. Prayers for beautiful, heroic, and noble children.
6. Prayers for a peaceful and long life with each other.
7. Prayers for companionship, togetherness, loyalty, and understanding. They also ask that share their friendship for life.

After lots of joyous clapping and singing followed by circling the chuppah several times as well for the Jewish celebration, it was time to make this official… mazel tov! groom smashes glass at jewish ceremony at palm springs wedding, groom gets ready before his wedding, , photo by la vida creations

And then they were MARRIED!! bride and groom share intimate moments in awe after their ceremony at colony 29, photo by la vida creations

Nothing beats those few minutes right after the ceremony when our couples come to the realization that they are ACTUALLY OFFICIALLY MARRIED! Inspecting each other’s ring and just letting it soak in. <3

Well, since he hadn’t seen this fabulous fuchsia gown yet, we had a little fun with a second first look 🙂 bride wears bright fuschia gown among the beautiful architecture of colony 29, photo by la vida creations

And then we stole the happy couple for just a couple of minutes to tour around the architecture of the bungalows, which of course you know we were loving! I’ve always had a mad obsession with unique architectural styles and the Colony did not disappoint! This little getaway also gave them the chance to see their reception from the outside and appreciate all the fun their guests were having at cocktail hour. alyssa-jon-palm-springs-outdoor-wedding48

Oh, that sigh of relief after the ceremony is over… it’s palpable! 🙂 bride in bright fuschia gown with her groom snuggle among the beautiful architecture of colony 29

Colony 29 was originally built in the 1920s when artist John Burham wished to bring a taste of a villa he fell in love with in Portugal to Palm Springs.

Burham starting inviting artists and eventually one of the bungalows became known as the Colony Art Studio. Artists began living in this quiet little colony as the unique environment gave them the exclusion they need to create while being surround by the natural beauty of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. It truly is a unique wedding and event venue! So many little nooks and crannies and winding paths through the bungalows!

They surprised everyone with a little snippet of the Austin Powers intro dance. And the crowd went wild!

From that straight into a sweet and lovely first dance as a married couple. Can’t beat that backdrop against the San Jacinto mountains and the charming bungalows. photo of wedding couple during their first dance under market lights at colony 29 in palm springs

They shared some giggles and laughter during their first dance too, which we always love to see!

After their first dance, there were many toasts filled with lots of stories about these two as well as what they bring to the table to balance one another.photo of wedding couple laughing during toasts at their outdoor wedding reception in palm springs

The stories were pretty entertaining, as you can see 😉 guest candids in a documentary style at outdoor reception show the fun and laughter during an outdoor wedding receptionbride gives the thumbs up in a documentary photojournalistic photo during toasts at their wedding reception at colony 29
